Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:49:40 GMT

MIAMI (AP) — The Atlanta Braves are placing right-hander Kyle Wright on the injured list after he left in the third inning of Wednesday’s 14-6 win over the Miami Marlins with right shoulder soreness.“It sucks,” Wright said after the game, fighting back tears. He opened the season on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation and had a cortisone shot in January, though he wasn’t sure Wednesday if it was the same issue that caused his early exit.Wright said he started feeling discomfort in the second inning but felt good enough to stay in the game until three batters into the third.“I didn’t feel good enough to keep going,” Wright said. “At that point, I wasn’t being smart. I give Kranny (pitching coach Rick Kranitz) a lot of credit for protecting me from myself.”Manager Brian Snitker said he and Kranitz suspected something was off when they noticed a dip in Wright’s velocity. His fastball velocity hit 94.8 to start the game, dipped to 92.6 in the second and 9...

DETROIT (AP) — New York Mets ace Max Scherzer struggled in his return from a suspension Wednesday night, allowing six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers during the second game of a doubleheader.“I was spraying the ball, especially out of the stretch, and that’s what you expect coming off a long layoff,” Scherzer said. “The number one thing was getting through this start healthy, and we did that. Now we can move forward.” Detroit won 8-1 to sweep the twinbill. Scherzer was suspended for 10 games by Major League Baseball on April 20 after getting ejected for having a foreign substance on his pitching hand during his April 19 start against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The three-time Cy Young Award winner was facing the Tigers for the third time since leaving the team after the 2014 season. In the first of those starts, he matched a major league record for a nine-inning game with 20 strikeouts during a May 2016 win in Washington. Then h...

Groups explore property tax solutions as senators prepare for debate

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:49:40 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) -- Property taxes have been a hot topic these last days of the legislative session. A proposal rolled out on Monday is on the calendar for debate in the Senate Wednesday night. While the governor and lawmakers are highlighting the reductions that could come from the new property tax proposal, others are advising on how the measure could impact money elsewhere.FOX31 political analyst Michael Fields is the president of the conservative think tank Advance Colorado. He is working on an initiative to get a property tax measure on the ballot this year or next year."Basically, this would not be billions of dollars like the governor's plan would be to take TABOR refunds from people. This is really what's going on with his property tax relief. It's saying 'we're going to take a large portion of your TABOR refunds that would be coming back to you anyway, we're going to put it into property tax relief, and act like this is some kind of property tax cut for you,'" Fields said. Snow melt causing flood concerns in northwest Colorado

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:49:40 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) — Flood concerns are increasing due to rapid snowmelt in northwest Colorado. Flood watches are in effect through Saturday for parts of Moffat, Routt, Rio Blanco and Garfield counties. This includes Lower Yampa River Basin, Central Yampa River Basin, Elkhead and Park Mountains, Upper Yampa River Basin, and Flat Tops - including the cities of Rangely, Dinosaur, Craig, Hayden, Meeker, Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Steamboat Springs, Buford, and Trappers Lake. The concern is that rapid snowmelt could lead to excessive runoff, which may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Be careful if you are traveling in those areas because creeks and streams may rise out of their banks and flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, low-water crossings may be flooded. Another concern is that storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.A flood warning is also in effect for portions of the Dolores River from t...

TAUNTON – In what seems to become an annual affair, Taunton and King Philip faced off for Hockomock Kelley-Rex Division supremacy midway through the regular season. Both teams came in undefeated on the season as the Tigers (9-0, 8-0) outlasted the Warriors (10-1, 7-1), 3-1, in what turned out to be a pitchers’ duel.Sam Lincoln picked up the win with a complete game three-hitter while first-year hurler McCoy Walsh finished with 10 strikeouts after the big game jitters got the best of her early in the game. All of Taunton’s runs came off the bat of Ava Venturelli as the Louisville-bound outfielder crushed two home runs in her first two at bats to give Taunton the 3-0 lead after three innings of play. Venturelli’s first blast was a two-run shot that cleared the 220-foot marker in center field with no problem.Venturelli followed it up with her second homer on a 2-2 pitch to left center that was also a no-doubter in the third inning to give Lincoln all the support necessary for the win.“Th...

Triston Casas comes through in clutch as Red Sox beat Blue Jays 8-3

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:49:40 GMT

Triston Casas needed a game like this.Mired in a terrible slump to start the season and coming into the game 0 for his last 11, the rookie stepped to the plate three straight innings with a chance to either tie the game, put the Red Sox ahead or otherwise do serious damage. He delivered with back-to-back game-tying RBI singles and then crushed a fly ball to the warning track in the sixth that on a slightly less windy night would have been an easy grand slam.“That was one of my best swings of the season, honestly,” Casas said of the deep fly out. “Everything evens out, the baseball gods know everything and they got me that hit that last at bat. … I’m confident everything will even out and I’m just doing my best to swing at good pitches and barrel them up as often as possible.”Casas finished 3 for 5 with two RBI, helping power a somewhat odd but still decisive 8-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. With the win Boston has now won five straight an...
