STOCKHOLM (AP) — Dale Whitnell shot an 11-under 61 Friday to surge into a six-shot lead after the second round of the Scandinavian Mixed event, where women and men play on the same course for one prize fund and trophy. The 34-year-old Englishman, whose lone appearance at a major tournament was when he came through qualifying and made the cut 11 years ago at the British Open, had 11 birdies in a flawless round to move to 17-under 127 in total. He pulled well clear of overnight co-leader Yannik Paul of Germany, who settled for a 68 after his six birdies were negated by bogeys on holes No. 8 and No. 14 at Ullna Golf and Country Club.Scottish player Richie Ramsay’s 66 moved him up to third place and one shot behind Paul, who shared the overnight lead with Niklas Norgaard of Denmark. American John Catlin’s 66 kept him two shots behind Ramsay in fourth.Norgaard struggled on the front nine with two bogeys and a triple bogey on the tricky No. 8. MILAN (AP) — Italian special forces have regained control of a Turkish ship that had been attacked by armed stowaways off the southern city of Naples, Italy’s defense minister told state television on Friday.Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said the operation was still underway and that Italian forces were securing the safety of the 22 crew members aboard the “Galeta Seaways,” while rounding up the stowaways. The special forces lowered themselves onto the Turkish ship from two helicopters in the dramatic operation to free crew held by about 15 stowaways, two or three armed with sharp objects, Crosetto said. The stowaways moved to take control of the cargo ship that was en route to France after being discovered, but the captain was able to sound an alarm. Italian custom patrol boats blocked the Turkish ship, while the special forces boarded, Crosetto said. Some of the stowaways continued to elude capture, Crosetto said.“We hope it will end as soon as possible without consequences for an...Philly cops fired over offensive Facebook posts can pursue First Amendment claim, court rules

A dozen Philadelphia police officers who were fired or suspended for racist and violent social media posts can pursue a lawsuit against the city claiming their First Amendment rights were violated, a federal appeals court ruled. The officers’ social media accounts were included in a database, published in 2019, that catalogued thousands of bigoted or violent posts by active-duty and former police officers in several states. In Philadelphia, nearly 200 officers were disciplined, including 15 who were forced off the job. Twelve officers subsequently filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city, asserting the police department had retaliated against them for exercising their First Amendment rights.A federal judge dismissed the suit last year, agreeing with the city’s argument that the officers’ posts had undermined public trust in the department and violated the city’s social media policy. The plaintiffs “played racist bingo, mocking as many ethnic or re...Indictment: Lawyer told authorities that Trump suggested he pluck out damaging documents to keep them from FBI
