Mujiri Hayward is now open, bringing quality sushi at affordable prices

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 18:03:15 GMT

Mujiri, the shoe box-sized sushi joint in Oakland known for quality fish and low prices, has opened a sister restaurant in Hayward. While this a far cry from debuting an outpost at, say, San Francisco Airport, it’s a sign that word of this once-hidden gem has gone out far and wide.Mujiri Hayward, located at 22530 Main St., serves lunch and dinner and is take-out only at the moment. The restaurant needs to do renovations to accommodate dining service, which could take a few months, a staffer said. It’s also not serving alcohol as yet, unlike the original Oakland spot with its sprawling sake list. There’s yuzu and ume soda, sparkling water, Coke and unsweetened green tea.None of which will likely detract people from flocking here. The new restaurant is already posting notices on its website about selling out. It’s not hard to see why: The quality of the fish, sourced from Japan and elsewhere, is top notch. You probably will never look at ika (squid) nigiri the s...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — On a recent afternoon in San Francisco, a DoorDash driver was circling the neighborhood — first in his car, then on foot — trying to find the restaurant where he needed to pick up two orders. Finally, he Googled the location and realized DoorDash’s app sent him to the wrong address. It’s an error he vowed to fix, and he probably will. Because that worker is Andy Fang, DoorDash’s chief technology officer and one of the company’s three co-founders.“If it happens with one restaurant, it might actually be happening with a lot of other restaurants as well,” Fang said after he retrieved the orders and settled back into his car. “If we can see why that happened, maybe we can fix other issues too.”Fang is one of a growing number of executives who occasionally do the hourly work that makes their companies hum. Starbucks’ new CEO, Laxman Narasimhan, is a trained barista and puts in a half-day of work at a store each month. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Lyft CEO David Rish...

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Kai Havertz completed a move across London on Wednesday by joining Arsenal from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth 65 million pounds ($82 million). Arsenal said the Germany international had joined on a “long-term contract.” The 24-year-old forward becomes Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the summer after Arsenal finished runner-up in the Premier League last season. “You have probably already seen it.. But now ‘officially’ I’m a Gunner,” Havertz tweeted, adding a heart emoji.Havertz will forever be a Chelsea icon after scoring the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final and last year’s Club World Cup triumph. But he ultimately failed to live up to expectations at the club that he could become one of Europe’s top players, leading to his departure after three years at Stamford Bridge. Arteta is aiming to strengthen this summer after suffering the pain of last season’s title collapse. Arsenal led the table for much of the campai...

Trump evalúa no participar en el primer debate de precandidatos republicanos

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 18:03:15 GMT

Judge considering blocking parts of North Carolina abortion law won’t halt broader 12-week ban

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 18:03:15 GMT

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — A federal judge said Wednesday that she won’t temporarily block most of a newly revised abortion law from taking effect this weekend in North Carolina, including a near-ban on the procedure after 12 weeks of pregnancy. U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles said at a court hearing that she won’t grant the request by lawyers for Planned Parenthood South Atlantic and a physician to set aside most of the new restrictions before they are to come into force on Saturday, calling it overbroad. The 12-week ban, which was approved in the spring by North Carolina’s Republican-controlled General Assembly and includes new exceptions for rape, incest and “life-limiting” fetal anomalies, would replace the current ban on most abortions after 20 weeks. The abortion providers claim in litigation that several specific provisions affecting doctors and patients in the new law approved by the General Assembly are so contradictory, vague and unconstitutional that al...
