BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — NATO member Romania inaugurated on Monday an international training hub for F-16 jet pilots from allied countries and other partners, including Ukraine.The training facility situated at an air base in Fetesti in southeast Romania will aim to increase interoperability between NATO allies, and better position the military alliance “to face the complex challenges” in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region, Romania’s defense ministry said.It said the powerful U.S.-made warplanes will be supplied by the Royal Netherlands Air Force while the aircraft maker Lockheed Martin will provide instructors and maintenance at the training center.Kathleen Kavalec, the U.S. ambassador to Romania who attended the opening, called the collaboration an “example of how the public and private sectors can cooperate to further our defense priorities.”“I am here with one simple message,” she said. “The United States government is here to support in any way we can.”Romania, whic...Man found dead following house explosion, fire in Scarborough

One person is confirmed dead after an explosion that levelled a home in Scarborough over the weekend.Fire officials tell CityNews they located the body of a man in the rubble of the home on Kitchener Road near Kingston and Galloway roads. Crews were called to the home just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday for reports of an explosion in the area.Officials are now working to retrieve the body. Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg said Sunday that crews were searching for one person, believed to be the lone occupant at the time of the blast, who was unaccounted for.No other injuries have been reported and officials said adjacent homes were largely unaffected by the fire and explosion. TORONTO — First Quantum Minerals Ltd. says it has started to reduce ore processing operations at its Cobre Panama mine due to a blockade by small boats at the mine’s port as protests against the company’s new mining concession agreement continue.The company says it is ramping down one ore processing train while two remain operational. Shares in First Quantum have plunged in recent weeks as people in Panama have been protesting the operating agreement between the company and the government for the mine.The scale and scope of the deal have raised nationalist anger as well as environmentalist objections. CHICAGO — A firefighter was critically injured while battling a fire at a restaurant in the city's Lincoln Park neighborhood.The fire started around 6 a.m. Monday at Lincoln Station Bar and Grill in the 2400 block of Lincoln Avenue. According to officials, a Mayday call was made while crews were responding to the fire and one firefighter was trapped and had to be rescued. LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A toddler is in critical condition after he and a 5-year-old boy were found drowning in a river in LaPorte County, Indiana.According to Indiana police, the incident occurred in the Tippecanoe River where a one-year-old and five-year-old boy were found struggling in the river behind a home on Stamper Drive around 10:50 a.m. Chicago firefighter critically injured after battling fire at restaurant in Lincoln Park Officers found that the children had been playing outside and entered the water. Family members pulled the children from the water after hearing the five-year-old call for help. The children and two adult family members were transported to Pulaski Memorial Hospital. The toddler was later transported to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.
