If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Or another. With a fifth consecutive poor start by right-hander Jose Urena, an offense that’s sputtering like a ’70s Ford Pinto, and a seventh-inning meltdown by reliever Dinelson Lamet, the Rockies were drubbed, 9-3, by the Phillies on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.Colorado has lost 11 of its last 12 games and its 6-17 record is tied with the 2005 club for the worst record after 23 games in franchise history. Some perspective: the 1993 expansion team went 8-15.Philadelphia, which took three of four games in the series and celebrated the Philly Phanatics’ 45th birthday, launched a season-high four home runs. They mashed eight homers during the series vs. two for the Rockies.Urena continues to be a weak link in the rotation, hurt by walks and home runs. The right-hander was gone after 3 2/3 innings, having given up four runs and departing the mound with a 9.82 ERA. MIAMI (AP) — The reactions from Victor Oladipo’s Miami Heat teammates told the story as he sat on the court, holding onto his left knee as fans watched in stunned silence. Kyle Lowry yelled a profanity. Max Strus covered his face with a towel. Jimmy Butler held his head in his hands, staring at the floor. They feared he was hurt badly. They were right. The Heat announced Sunday that Oladipo tore his left patellar tendon, a diagnosis that came after an MRI earlier in the day. The injury ends Oladipo’s season and calls his availability for the start of next season — and likely beyond — into serious doubt. He will need a third major surgery in just over four years, the previous two coming after a quadriceps injury over his right knee.No timetable will likely be known until after the surgery.“Yes, there are injuries. That is a part of this game. We understand that,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Sunday before the team learned of the diagnosis. “But the human side of it, w...Ticker: NBCUniversal CEO ousted over ‘inappropriate conduct,’ dragon bursts into flames at Disneyland

Published Fri, 27 Dec 2024 21:40:59 GMT
It was back to double duty Sunday for Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, with it still unclear when All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will be able to return to duty for the Milwaukee Bucks in this best-of-seven Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.“We have to prepare for both teams again,” Spoelstra said ahead of Monday night’s Game 4 at Kaseya Center, in the series the Heat lead 2-1.As in a Giannis-centric approach should Antetokounmpo make it back from the lower-back contusion sustained in the Heat’s Game 1 victory in Milwaukee. Or whether the Bucks will be without Antetokounmpo for a third consecutive game, with the teams splitting the two games in his absence.Antetokounmpo worked on the main court at Kaseya Center with Bucks coaches Sunday prior to his team’s video session.“We’ll continue to monitor him,” coach Mike Budenholzer told media Sunday. “He did some individual work today on the court and we’ll see ...Yankees’ offense goes cold as Blue Jays hand them first series loss of the season

Clarke Schmidt, in his best start of 2023, cruised against a tough Blue Jays lineup on Sunday. Until he didn’t.The 27-year-old righty was perfect through the early frames, but a fifth inning double from Matt Chapman put that to rest. Then came the sixth inning, when Anthony Volpe’s first career error preempted a two-run home run from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., his second of the series. Daulton Varsho immediately followed that with a solo shot in what became a 5-1, series-winning victory for Toronto.Schmidt’s day ended there on an especially sour note, though his fifth start of the season was also his longest and most efficient. The right-hander, one of three replacement starters in the Yankees’ rotation due to injuries, threw 76 pitches over 5.2 innings while striking out eight Jays for a new career high. Schmidt also allowed a season-low three hits and dropped his ERA to 6.30, but the two longballs proved costly.Toronto added another run in the seventh when Dann...Latest news
