Investigative journalists report that a known Russian war criminal is comfortably settling abroad. According to the report of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense at the end of March 2023, representatives of Russian elites are actively trying to negotiate their safe passage to the free world in exchange for leaking anything that they may or may not know about the inner dealings of Russian politics. "There are different people with different motivations. Many representatives of the so-called Russian elite already understand that the war was a colossal mistake and a crime. In addition, the finale will be tragic for Russia. They are trying to find options for their escape," said Andrey Yusov, a representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in an interview with Gazeta.ua".This statement by a Ukrainian intelligence official came just days after the scandal in Russia when an unidentified person leaked a t...Family of man fatally shot by Inland Empire deputies alleges killing was unjustified

By Isabel Debre and Sam McNeil | Associated PressJERUSALEM — Militants in Lebanon fired a heavy barrage of rockets at Israel on Thursday, the Israeli military said, forcing people across Israel’s northern frontier into bomb shelters, wounding at least two people and ratcheting up regional tensions a day after Israeli police raided Jerusalem’s most sensitive holy site.Israel’s military said 34 rockets had been fired across the border, and that 25 were shot down by its Iron Dome aerial defense system. Another five rockets struck Israeli territory and the rest of the strikes were being investigated, security forces added. The army’s response would come after “a situational assessment” and meeting by Israel’s Security Cabinet later Thursday, it said. The unusually large salvo of rockets raised fears of a wider conflagration, as Israel’s bitter enemy, the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah, holds sway over much of southern Lebanon. Credit to the Warriors. While this season has proven to be quite the challenge, they have made it easy for themselves and us ahead of the final two games of the regular season. If they win Friday in Sacramento and Sunday in Portland, the Dubs will qualify for the real playoffs and avoid the play-in tournament.Still, the situation is messy with the Dubs vying with four other teams for two “true” playoff spots. Let’s sort it all out:Do the Warriors have to win both remaining games to be a top-six seed?In a word: No.But two wins put the Warriors on the most direct path.Following the Clippers’ win over the Lakers and a Pelicans win Wednesday, the Warriors have a 50-50 shot at making the real playoffs (top-six seeds), per PlayoffStatus.com.That qualification could be as either the fifth or sixth seed. And if the Warriors win only one of the final two games, their odds of avoiding the play-in tournament improve to around 60 percent. In that case, Golden State will al...Pension reform protests resume in France after talks fail

By John Leicester, Thomas Adamson and Oleg Cetinic | Associated PressPARIS — Protesters disrupted vehicle traffic at Paris’ main airport and police fired clouds of tear gas in other French cities in the latest round of strikes and demonstrations Thursday against President Emmanuel Macron’s contested pension reforms.Macron’s drive to raise the national retirement age from 62 to 64 has ignited a months-long firestorm of public anger.Talks between trade union leaders and Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne broke up Wednesday without a breakthrough, setting the stage for protesters’ return to the streets, while unions called yet another day of protests for April 13.However, the number of strikers has fallen, particularly in the transportation sector, since protests began in January. About 400,000 people joined the protest in Paris Thursday, down from 450,000 the week before, said the powerful CGT union. Interior Ministry estimates of the marchers’ numbers weren&...Latest news
