What’s the most a 'Jeopardy!' contestant could possibly win?

Published Wed, 26 Feb 2025 00:11:28 GMT

(NEXSTAR) — Ken Jennings. Brad Rutter. James Holzhauer. They’re all record-setting “Jeopardy!’ champions, but none have even come close to earning the maximum potential dollar amount a “Jeopardy!” contestant can theoretically win in a single game. It’s unlikely that anyone would ever come significantly closer, though. At least not based on the current structure of the quiz show’s gameplay. As it stands, the largest payday ever awarded during a single game of “Jeopardy!” (outside of a tournament) is $131,127, a hefty prize amount won by James Holzhauer in April 2019. In fact, Holtzhauer holds the top 12 spots for single-day winnings, all earned during his 32-game streak during the spring of 2019, according to the official “Jeopardy!” leaderboard.Holzhauer was able to maximize his winnings by placing large wagers during Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy. But even a skilled player like himself would need an absurd amount of luck (and more than a touch of hubris) to win the maximum theoret...

The amount of teen girls who made a plan for suicide also rose from 19.9 to 23.6 percent, and the percentage who attempted suicide rose from 11 to 13.3 percent. The CDC conducts this survey every two years to poll young people on questions about topics such as sexual activity, substance use and mental health. The survey is based on data from 13,677 students from across the country in 2019 and 17,232 students in 2021. MARGERY A. BECK and JAMES POLLARD (Associated Press)COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Abortion bans in deeply conservative Nebraska and South Carolina each fell a single vote short of passing in their legislatures amid heated debates among Republicans, yet another sign that abortion is becoming a difficult issue for the GOP.As the last vote was cast in Nebraska, where abortion is currently banned after 20 weeks of pregnancy, cheers erupted outside the legislative chamber, with opponents of the bill waving signs and chanting, “Whose house? Our house!”In South Carolina, Republican Sen. Sandy Senn criticized Majority Leader Shane Massey for repeatedly “taking us off a cliff on abortion.”“The only thing that we can do when you all, you men in the chamber, metaphorically keep slapping women by raising abortion again and again and again, is for us to slap you back with our words,” she said. The Nebraska proposal, backed by Republican Gov. Jim Pillen, is unlikely to move forward this year after the bil...
