DANVILLE – Liberty’s game plan heading into Friday’s matchup against San Ramon Valley was simple on paper.Maintain control of the ball, minimize turnovers and get first downs. In short, the Lions wanted to keep their offense on the field and, in turn, keep the Wolves’ dynamic offense, led by quarterback Luke Baker, off of it.“I knew that [Baker] was going to come out, they were gonna do things, make players, they were gonna score points and it was gonna be an offensive shootout,” Liberty coach Mike Cable said. But Friday ended up being a one-sided fight after a wild first quarter, dominated by San Ramon Valley’s opportunistic defense and lethal offense, leading to a 66-12 rout of Liberty.Baker did exactly as Cable predicted, wasting no time getting the Wolves on the board. On the fourth play of the opening drive, he connected with receiver Owen Scott, who ran it in for a 41-yard touchdown.Meanwhile, Liberty’s offense looked out of sorts from the st...

Now those trying to keep the A’s in Oakland are trying something else"From my standpoint, I think that there's sort of only one way that we could keep the A's. And that's if the Nevada falls through," said Hal Gordon, a former A's vendor known as "Hal the hot dog guy." UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Pakistan’s interim prime minister said he expects parliamentary elections to take place in the new year, dismissing the possibility that the country’s powerful military would manipulate the results to ensure that jailed former premier Imran Khan’s party doesn’t win.In an interview with The Associated Press Friday, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said it’s the Election Commission that is going to conduct the vote, not the military, and Khan appointed the commission’s chief at the time, so “why would he turn in any sense of the word against him?” Pakistan has been in deepening political turmoil since April 2022 when Khan was removed from office following a no-confidence vote in Parliament. He was arrested in early August on corruption charges and sentenced to three years in prison, later suspended though he still remains in jail. The country is also facing one of the worst economic crises in its history and recovering from last summer’s devastating floods that killed at leas...
