APD: Man dies in June 1 auto-ped crash on Hwy 290

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Police said Thursday a man died after being hit by a pick-up truck on the night of June 1. According to APD, the crash happened around 9:20 p.m. in the 6100 block of the eastbound service road of East U.S. Hwy. 290. That is just east of William Cannon Drive and Williamson Creek in southwest Austin. Police said the unidentified man died at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to APD.APD said this is Austin's 43rd fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 43 fatalities for the year. Her LEGO-focused business originally opened in Adams, but closed during the pandemic. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Police are investigating after being called to a home on Hawthorne Avenue on Thursday around 5:40 p.m., for a medical call and reports of a possible weapon inside the house. ST. LOUIS -- An early morning fire damaged a vacant two-story apartment building in the Kingsway West neighborhood of North St. Louis. Firefighters got the call around 2:30 this morning at the building on Union Boulevard at Wabada Avenue. The roof caught fire, and the walls of the building began to collapse. Authorities are investigating after a man was killed in a shooting in South Los Angeles on Thursday evening. According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the 1100 block of East 93rd Street around 7:55 p.m. on calls of a gunshot victim. Upon arriving on scene, they located a Black male adult suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel rendered aid to the victim at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Neither the victim nor a suspect has been identified. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the LASD’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. A California jury has returned a $63 million verdict against Chevron after finding the oil giant covered up a toxic chemical pit on land purchased by a man who built a house on it and was later diagnosed with a blood cancer.Kevin Wright, who has multiple myeloma, unknowingly built his home directly over the chemical pit near Santa Barbara in 1985, according to his lawsuit.Starting in 1974, Chevron subsidiary Union Oil Company of California had operated a sump pit for oil and gas production, a process that left the carcinogenic chemical benzene on the property, court papers said.Wright bought the land and built the house in 1985. SANTA CRUZ — A 34-year-old Santa Cruz motorcyclist died Wednesday evening after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1.According to a release from the California Highway Patrol, Juan Manuel Maldonado Carranza was driving a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound along the highway. He began passing traffic on the left by crossing the solid double yellow lines and traveling in the northbound lane.
