In a bid to help protect the environment, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, ordered a ban on plastic bags at grocery stores on Monday night. It joins a growing numbers of counites in the D.C. region to enact bans on single-use plastic bags.Starting in January 2024, grocery shoppers in the Anne Arundel County must either bring their own reusable bags or pay 10 cents each for paper bags. Restaurants are exempt from the ban.Proponents of the bill that passed Monday said the ban is especially important because the county has 550 miles of shoreline that can become fouled by plastic bag waste. Disposable plastic bags are often blamed for trapping fish, birds and other wildlife.Prince George’s County Council gave preliminary approval in May and is expected to provide final approval later this month on a similar ban on plastic bags.Plastic bags are also banned in Laurel and Takoma Park.Montgomery County grocery shoppers currently pay a 5-cent tax on each plastic bag used at grocery, conve...Unlikely Champions League finalist Inter Milan out to upset Manchester City

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — With its massive spending power, Manchester City’s run to the Champions League final has hardly come as a surprise. The same cannot be said for Inter Milan, City’s opponent on Saturday in Istanbul. While Inter is one of European soccer’s most storied teams, it enters the game as an outsider, having somewhat surprisingly reached the final. After all, Inter is the third best team in Italy, a league that has long-since lost its shine after being considered the ultimate destination for the world’s best players in the 1990s.Inter finished the season 18 points behind league champion Napoli, the team many expected to go far before losing to AC Milan in the quarterfinals.Inter went on to beat its city rival in the semifinals to advance to the final of European club soccer’s elite competition for the first time in 13 years. To put that achievement into context, this was the first time it had even been in the quarterfinals since 2011, when...Hospitalizan de nuevo al papa Francisco, será operado por un intenso dolor abdominal

(CNN) — The first NASA spacecraft designed to study a metallic asteroid is now set to launch in October, according to a Monday announcement made by the agency. The endeavor, known as the Psyche mission, was originally expected to lift off in 2022. But the launch window opened on August 1 and closed October 11 before the spacecraft’s flight software was ready.During testing at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, engineers discovered a compatibility issue in the software’s test bed simulators. The issue was corrected, but there wasn’t enough time for a full checkout and launch in 2022.An independent review board has found that steps taken by NASA and the California Institute of Technology to get the delayed mission back on track, including work on the mission as well as institutional steps, have been “outstanding,” according to the announcement. The review board, which convened last summer when delays became evident in June 2022, provided a report with recommendati...Miami-Dade, Broward schools make final schedule adjustments as summer break approaches
