No moves yet for Cardinals at Winter Meetings, but plenty to unpack

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals dove into the free agent pitcher's market in the early weeks of the offseason, but haven't finalized any moves during the Winter Meetings, which are set to end Wednesday. The Winter Meetings mark an annual occurrence in which lead executives from the Cardinals and other MLB teams meet to discuss business and potential trades. The meetings began Sunday and run through Wednesday in Nashville.As of Wednesday morning, the Cardinals haven't made any roster changes since the start of the meetings. The couple attended Nelly’s Black and White Ball in St. Louis on Sunday, where Ashanti's hand on her stomach sparked pregnancy speculation. The duo, who dated from 2003 to 2013, hinted at expanding their family during the event.Nelly confirmed their relationship in September, surprising both of them. Disturbing security camera footage shows a man sucker-punch another man who was pushing a child in a stroller in Calabasas on Tuesday. Redondo Union High School was closed Wednesday after a student reportedly brought a gun onto the campus Tuesday, one day after another student was arrested for doing the same thing.The school went on lockdown Tuesday morning when authorities received a report of a weapon on campus sometime before 9:30 a.m., based on a message apparently sent to parents by school officials. 42-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near Nelson RoadRIO HONDO, TX (December 6, 2023) – Jorge Villanueva died Thursday morning in a head-on collision on FM 106, just east of Nelson Road.At approximately 10:11 a.m., emergency services were dispatched to the location just east of Nelson Road.According to reports, the operator of a brown Chevrolet Silverado made an attempt to overtake another vehicle while traveling in the eastbound direction on FM106. Subsequently, the Chevrolet swerved into the westbound lanes, colliding with an approaching Saturn Outlook.The driver of the Saturn was pronounced dead at the accident site. With the rampant theft of catalytic converters long a vexing problem for thousands of frustrated car owners, San Jose leaders want to make it easier to nab the culprits pilfering the valuable devices from vehicles in the city.City leaders are proposing tweaking the current ordinance to make possessing an unattached catalytic converter illegal without proof of ownership. Individuals without proof would also face harsher fines. Currently, law enforcement and prosecutors can only seize and press charges for the devices when they find the car part carrying etchings, usually showing the original car owner’s license plate number.San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and Councilmembers David Cohen and Pam Foley are pushing for the change and a hearing will take place before the city rules committee on Wednesday.
