How are movie ratings decided in the US? (WHTM) - Hundreds of films come out in the United States every year, and each one of them has a rating. These ratings are in place to advise parents and others about the kind of content each movie contains. The current movie rating system was created by the Motion Picture Association of America in 1968 and was established to help parents make informed viewing choices for their children. Movies are reviewed and rated by the Classification and Rating Administration, which is a part of the Motion Picture Association of America. There were only four categories when the ratings were first established in 1968. Rated G: For general audiences. Rated M: For mature audiences and parental discretion is advisedRated R: Restricted and no one under 16 is admitted unless with a parent or guardian. ATCEMS: Major bus collision in southeast Austin, 6 patients involved AUSTIN (KXAN) — Crews are responding to a major collision involving a bus in southeast Austin near Del Valle Street.Austin-Travis County EMS said at least six patients were involved and CPR was in progress.ATCEMS said it had three ambulances, a physician assistant and two commanders assigned to the incident.The Austin Fire Department said it also had three engines and a battalion chief at the scene of the incident assisting with patient care and scene management.Officials said to avoid the area.This is a developing situation. Person hit, killed by vehicle in downtown Austin overnight AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A person was hit and killed by a vehicle in downtown Austin overnight. According to Austin-Travis County EMS, an adult was pronounced dead on the scene of an auto-pedestrian collision at 7th Street and Red River Street around 2:30 a.m. That area is in the Red River Cultural District close to several bars. It's not clear if the driver remained on the scene during the investigation. KXAN will update this story if we receive any further details.

San Antonio Zoo to offer overnight savanna stays SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (KXAN) — Starting next year, the San Antonio Zoo will begin offering overnight stays in a private lodge that oversees the zoo's savanna exhibit. Guests will be able to wake up to the newly expanded African landscape perched over a range of animals including giraffes, zebras, sitatungas, gazelles, ostriches and more. Austin 1 of 10 selected for criminal justice mental health program AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Monday, Austin’s Downtown Austin Community Court (DACC) announced it was selected as a partner for the Criminal Justice Mental Health Learning Site Program.DACC said the program was meant to help improve outcomes for people with behavioral health needs in the criminal justice system.“The Program is built around sharing best practices and successful strategies to ensure that advancements made by these learning sites can be replicated and scaled across the country,” DACC said.According to the City of Austin, the program offers free training, resources and support to communities wanting to improve outcomes or enhance current responses for people with behavioral health needs in the criminal justice system. Austin was one of only 10 communities selected to partake in the program, according to the city.“This Program is an essential step towards building a more equitable and compassionate criminal justice system that addresses the underlying mental health issues of ...

A work group includes the Ramsey County Attorney and Sheriff’s offices, St. Paul police, the nonprofit Justice Point and crime victims.Among the goals: moving away from the current cash bail system to one based on risk. A pretrial risk assessment would be administered — which would conclude while the individual is being booked into jail — to determine if they can be released until their first court appointment, county officials say.The county is one of seven sites selected across the country to be granted five years of research and policy support from Arnold Ventures to carry out the effort.The townhall will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Amherst H.
